Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council
The APRC’s goal is to help resolve conflicts through silent diplomacy, lobbying, facilitating and mediating behind the scenes on the Asian continent. The APRC gathers together a network of experienced leaders from in- and outside Asia. The APRC operates according to the principle of non-intervention and so engages only with the consent of conflict parties. The body was formed by a number of prominent figures, including former Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Surakiart Sathirathai, former Indonesian Vice-President, Jusuf Kalla, José Ramos-Horta, Former Head of State, Timor-Leste, Tun Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, Former Prime Minister, Malaysia, and Professor. Shunmugam Jayakumar, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Singapore. PACTA has been involved from the very beginning in helping to conceptualise and initiate the APRC and, apart from Juha Christensen’s own position as one of the Founding Members, PACTA will have a strategic role in providing technical expert support and advice to assist the work of the Council.
